To continue information on the Action Learning Projects, Day 5.
This next group, the “Discovery Group” comprised of all women living in Fairbanks are creating an app that lists community resources, educational material around historical trauma and the issues that stem from that. They plan to hold an annual community resource discussion/collaboration as a way to maintain relevancy.
This group focused on Healthy Relationships. The issues they were striving to prevent are Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault.
Communities included: Huslia, Circle, Nenana and Fairbanks
Participants surveyed people from 12-70 years old gathering information on the root causes of why there is Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault in our villages.
This next group hosted a night of activities with the showing of the film “Chasing the Dragon” that focuses on opiate addiction. "'Chasing the Dragon" is a short documentary of real people addicted to prescription drugs and heroin. In their own words, ordinary people from various walks of life describe the horrors of addiction and how their addiction changed their lives forever.It's real and disturbing—a wake-up call.
